FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does the licensing process take?
The process typically takes 3 to 4 months, depending on how quickly paperwork is completed and training is attended. We walk alongside you each step of the way to keep the process moving.

Do I have to be married to foster?
No. Both single and married individuals can become licensed foster parents. However, married couples must have been married for at least two years (or longer if a subsequent marriage).

Do foster parents get financial support?
Yes. Foster parents receive a daily reimbursement rate to help cover the cost of caring for a child. This rate varies based on the needs of the child. Foster parents are also reimbursed all costs associated with becoming licensed, i.e. training, CPR certifications, and background checks.

What kind of support does Christian Homes provide?
We provide 24/7 on-call support, monthly home visits, ongoing training, a dedicated case manager, and connection to a community of foster families. You will never walk this road alone.

Can I work full-time and still foster?
Yes. Many of our foster parents work full-time. We can help you build a support plan for childcare, transportation, and appointments.

What ages are the children needing homes?
Children in foster care range from newborns to 17 years old. At our agency, we serve children who are classified as “basic” level of care, which refers to their behavioral, emotional, and medical needs. Most of the children placed through our program are typically between newborn and 5 years old

What if I get too attached?
Getting attached means you’re doing it right. Foster care is about providing love, stability, and safety, even if only for a season. While goodbyes can be hard, the impact you make lasts forever.

Can I choose the age or gender of the children I care for?
Yes, we work closely with you to identify the best match for your family, including age range, gender, and other preferences.

Do I have to own my home?
No. You can own or rent your home, as long as it meets basic safety and space requirements.

Is adoption an option?
While the state’s primary goal is reunification with the child’s biological family, there are many cases where adoption becomes necessary, and foster families are often the first considered.
