Mark your calendars! Kirk Cameron, star of the 80s sitcom “Growing Pains,” will be the guest speaker for our annual fall dinner on October 15th in Abilene and October 16th in Tyler.
Previous speakers at the ministry’s annual dinner have included The Blindside mom Leigh Anne Tuohy; the Benham Brothers and actor Kevin Sorbo.
Cameron has been a part of the national landscape since starring as “Mike Seaver” in the ABC hit sit-com, “Growing Pains.” The role turned him into a cultural icon in the 80’s, with his mullet hairstyle, cool sunglasses, and wisecracking comebacks. Since then, he’s appeared in numerous television and movie productions, including the “Left Behind” series, “Monumental,” and Fireproof- the marriage-centered film that became the #1 grossing inspirational movie of 2008.
His newest film, “Connect”, was released Feb, 2018, and offers “real help for parenting kids and teens in a Social Media world.” In the fall of 2016 and 2017, Cameron hosted live Fathom Theater events called “Revive Us” — a “national family meeting” urging the faith community to return to the biblical principles that will bring blessing and protection to the country.
Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, met on the set of “Growing Pains.” The have been married for more than 26 years and have six teenage children.
At the dinner, guests also will join the ministry in celebrating 2000 children placed for adoption through Christian Homes. The vision of Christian Homes is a Christian home for every child. The ministry encourages young women to choose life for their babies and when best, also adoption by loving Christian couples anxious to be parents. Since 1962 Christian Homes & Family Services has provided foster care for 1,800 children, maternity care for 2,800 birth mothers and has placed more than 2,000 babies and children into loving Christian homes through adoption.
