Dear Birth Mother,
Thank you for taking time to read our letter. What you are going through right now is undoubtedly one of the hardest things anyone could be faced with. Your love for your child is obvious by your willingness to consider adoption. Choosing a potential family to raise your child is a big choice. We hope this letter will give you a better idea of who we are as a family.
We are Rolf and Shasta. We have been happily married since 2007 and were blessed to be able to adopt our daughter Scarlett in 2016. Being parents has been one of the most wonderful adventures we could have ever dreamt of. Though the road to becoming parents has been rocky for us at times, it has made us appreciate our little family all the more. Through it all, we have seen God’s hand in our lives. We pray that God will help guide your path as well.
We met while going to college at Lubbock Christian University. Shasta asked Rolf out on the first date, an on-campus talent show. Shasta admired his easy smile, the confident way he carried himself, and his reputation of being “a nice guy.” Rolf liked that Shasta was a girl and wanted to go out with him—haha! We are both very close to our families and talk to them regularly. They are already eagerly praying for the next child that will join our family.
Rolf is a spray pilot (cropduster) and has been doing this kind of work since he was 16. It sounds daring, but he is very safety-conscious. Each summer, we travel as a family to South Dakota where Rolf works. We are lucky enough to live in a cute house overlooking a beautiful lake when in South Dakota. Because summers are much cooler up north, we get to spend a lot of time playing in the green grass and exploring the local zoo. We live in Texas during the rest of the year where we can be close to our extended families. Though Rolf’s job is seasonal, it pays well enough to allow him to be off work for 7+ months a year and for Shasta to be a full-time stay-at-home mom. The freedom to spend so much time with our family and have the opportunity to make our own schedules each day has been wonderful! It helps create an easy-going atmosphere at home and ensures that there is always plenty of time for snuggles and adventures! During his time off work, Rolf enjoys helping friends and family with projects around their homes, doing yardwork, and working on the tractor at his farm.
Shasta worked as a social worker with the elderly until our daughter came home to us in 2016. She has loved her role as a stay-at-home mom! She loves trying new healthy recipes (some of which are actually good, haha), anything having to do with super heroes, and using her extreme couponing skills to provide for our family and help supply the area Children’s Home. Her days as a stay-at-home mom are full of silly songs, dance parties, books, and snuggles. She can’t imagine anything better!
Our daughter Scarlett is thrilled to be a big sister some day! She loves to take care of her baby dolls and help others. She is an outgoing, cheerful child who is constantly trying to make us laugh. She can’t wait to have a brother or sister to play with and help take care of!
When considering open adoption the first time with our daughter, we were very nervous because we did not know what to expect. Through experience, we have come to see that open adoption is an amazing thing! Our relationship with our daughter’s birth mother has been so positive and we have come to love her and her family dearly. You will always be a part of your child; if we love that child, how could we not love you as well? We can’t wait to get to know you! We will continue to pray for you daily while you make this decision and in all of the days after.
