Michael and Kim’s Letter

Dear Birth Mother,

We know that your current circumstance may not be what you had planned for this time in your life, but we trust it is all part of God’s perfect plan. We have seen Him work difficult circumstances for His glory and our good, and we trust He is at work doing that right now in your story. We are praying for you to have peace, and a loving support system to surround you during this time to help you make the best decision for you and your precious baby. Thank you for choosing life! Your decision is incredibly brave and honorable.

We feel privileged to introduce ourselves to you. Our names are Michael and Kim Merrick. We were high school sweethearts, and have been married since 2005. We live in Tyler, a mid-sized town in east Texas. Michael is an orthopedic spine surgeon and Kim is a stay-at-home mom. We have been blessed with four wonderful, fun, smart, and joyful kids. They keep us laughing and having fun every day. As a couple we feel we make a great team. Michael is the strong, confident, caring leader of our family and Kim is the kind, gentle, fun-loving glue that holds our family together.

We both come from a large family and we decided before we got married that we wanted to give our children that same gift. It didn’t take long for us to get pregnant with our first child after getting married. Unfortunately, we lost four babies at various points during pregnancy. Our last miscarriage in January 2017 was really hard on us, and we wondered if the Lord was telling us our family was complete. We prayed through that decision for a full year, and we separately came to the conclusion that our family was not complete. We felt He was leading us to grow our family through adoption.

We are grateful to live in a community and go to a church that encourages families on adoption journeys. We have many friends who have adopted and look forward to your child having friends with similar stories as their own. We are excited to love and welcome another child into our family just like Christ accepts us into His.

One of our family mottos is: work hard, play harder. While we value strong work-ethic and hard work, we LOVE to play when the work is done. We love to play and watch sports, especially when the kids are playing. Michael is an outdoorsman that loves to hunt and fish, especially when the family tags along with him. Kim loves to run, play golf and tennis, bake, and spend time with family and friends. We also love spending time on the lake, in the mountains, or on the beach together. We love to laugh and don’t take life or each other too seriously.

We have room in our hearts and home for another child to join our family. Thank you for taking the time to consider us for the adoption of your child. We hope to meet you soon to discuss your desires, and what it could look like to partner in this beautiful adventure.

With great love and admiration,
Michael and Kim Merrick
