Adam and Kelsey’s Letter

Dear Birth Mother,

We want to start by expressing our admiration for the courageous decision you are considering. Choosing adoption is an incredible act of love, and it speaks volumes about your strength and dedication to your child. We know this road can be difficult, but please know that you are not alone. We are right here with you to provide support as you continue to navigate the journey ahead.

We’ve been married almost 12 years now and first became parents via adoption in 2017. Over the past 7 years, we have witnessed countless examples of God’s grace and faithfulness through our son’s adoption story. As he has gotten older and is starting to grasp the significance of his adoption, we continue to coach him through those complex emotions and remind him of his birth parents and their important role in his life. Adoption as a whole can feel pretty heavy sometimes and we believe it’s important not to minimize those complex feelings that inevitably pop up, but to affirm those unique experiences, whatever that looks like. We try to lean in when it’s messy and even painful, and just connect, communicate, and pray through those emotions so we can come out on the other side transformed and confident that the Lord has good plans for us that surpass our wildest dreams.

As far as our family goes, we love to be together pretty much all the time! We love to travel, visit friends and family, and explore our new city (we recently relocated), but we also love to hang out at home. “Movie night” is a big deal around here! We now live in Oklahoma City, but we’re from Texas and our extended families & friends mostly live in Texas, so we visit often. We live in a neighborhood that is teeming with children and friendly neighbors, so it’s been really fun getting settled here. Adam is a real estate broker who runs his own firm, so he has a pretty flexible schedule. Kelsey is an accounting and business consultant who works part time from home and only when the kids are in school. We are so blessed to have gotten to this point in our careers that allows us to be fully present for the kids.

The boys are so excited to welcome a new sibling and ask often when he/she will arrive (as in every day LOL). They are honestly very cool kids. They somehow have this exceptional emotional intelligence for their ages and are so kind and compassionate. Adam is incredible and just the epitome of “super dad.” He is constantly playing, telling jokes, and initiating fun, but also brings wisdom and focus to the center of our family that encourages us to form deep connections with each other. He is the definition of strength, the most servant-hearted person I’ve ever met, and the backbone of our family. Kelsey is a brilliant and compassionate person (and mom) who brings joy to everyone she encounters. Her kindness is apparent in everything she does, and she makes the toughest days feel infinitely lighter. She is the funniest person I know and creates such an amazingly warm atmosphere, such that every moment with her is precious to me, our family, and those who get to know her.

You are a rock star, friend. Hang in there and take comfort in knowing that wherever your next steps lead you, you’ve got this.

Hugs,
Kelsey & Adam
