A Letter from Alan and Melanie
Dear Birth Mother,
Thank you for choosing life and love for your precious baby. We cannot possibly imagine what you are going through right now, but we pray that you feel God’s strong hand leading you through this most important decision. We realize that you are making a tremendous personal sacrifice in order to do what you believe is best for your baby, and we will never forget that. Your baby will always know how much you love him or her.
We are Alan and Melanie and we are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to adopt a child. We have been unable to have children biologically, and believe that God would have us grow our family through adoption. Adoption is very familiar to us. Melanie’s two older brothers were adopted as infants (although Melanie’s parents received her as a biological surprise!) and Alan’s sister’s family recently adopted an older boy from Russia. We believe that adoption is a very special way to bring a child into our lives. We want to share the love God has for us and the love we have for each other with a child.
We met each other in the marching band in college and have been married a little over sixteen years. We are truly best friends and are blessed to have God as the center of our marriage. We live in a beautiful East Texas town that is within a couple of hours driving distance from several large Texas cities. Our house is in an established neighborhood full of young families and children. We have a large yard with lots of open space and trees. We love animals and have a small dog that adores playing ball and snuggling with us on the couch. Our extended family is very important to us and most of them live nearby. Each of us has one sibling and our parents are all retired and have lots of time to spend with their grandchildren. Your baby will also have a great-grandmother and will be welcomed by three anxious cousins—one girl and two boys.
Alan is a self-employed professional and his office is about ten minutes away from our home. To some extent, he is able to set his own work schedule. This permits us to have flexibility with vacation time and lets him be at home when needed. Alan is very easygoing, fun-loving, hardworking, and has a great sense of humor. He likes to play golf, enjoys watching all sports, and plays fantasy football and baseball in several computer leagues with friends.
Although Melanie currently works a few days a week with Alan as his office manager, she plans to be a full-time mom after our baby is in our home. She has previously been employed in administrative assistant positions, taught elementary music in the public schools, and also taught private music lessons. Melanie enjoys playing her French horn in various music groups, reading, baking, and spending time with family. She is joyful, compassionate, dependable, and very organized.
We are very involved in our church and regular Bible study. Alan has served in our missions ministry, has worked several years with our youth ministry, and is the substitute teacher for our Sunday School class. Melanie plays with our church orchestra and serves with the care ministry of our Sunday School class.
We have been blessed to take many vacations throughout our marriage and we love to travel. Most of our recent trips have involved amusement parks—we belong to a roller coaster enthusiasts club and love riding roller coasters! We have ridden over 400 different roller coasters and visited almost 100 different amusement parks over the years. It’s been a fantastic way to see the USA. We also enjoy taking walks together, watching movies, playing video games, playing board games, and working puzzles together.
We would welcome the chance to get to know you better and look forward to the day when we can tell our child about the special person you are.
God’s richest blessings on you and your baby,
Alan and Melanie
